CLEO: Cisco router in low Earth orbit - awards won by work related to CLEO - Times Higher Awards 2006

The University of Surrey and Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) won the Outstanding Contribution to Innovation and Technology category of the Times Higher Education Supplement Awards 2006. This was the first year this award was given, and to a unanimous decision by the judges. The finals were held at the Park Lane Hilton hotel in London on 15 November 2006, where Avengers and Bond girl Dame Diana Rigg presented Sir Martin Sweeting with the award.

The creation of the Disaster Monitoring Constellation (DMC) and its use by the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters were vital in winning this award. The nomination was made by Lloyd Wood, who had gained familiarity with the DMC by working with SSTL on the CLEO Cisco router in Low Earth Orbit.
